Best Hamburger Seasoning

Homemade seasoning mixes, like french fry seasoning, chicken taco seasoning, and steak seasoning are easy to make at home. No need to buy a huge bottle of mix from the store. Making your own spice mixes at home is budget friendly and allows you to be in control of the ingredients.

This hamburger seasoning will take a good burger to the perfect burger! Using this mix really amplifies the taste of a juicy burger. It works well for all kinds of homemade burgers like baked, grilled, air fried, or pan-fried burgers.

Hamburger Seasoning Recipe Ingredients

This spice blend for the best burger seasonings uses common herbs and spices you might already have in your pantry. It really is a wonderful combination of flavors and after using it you won’t want to go back to just salt and pepper.

Garlic Powder – This is a popular ingredient in many spice mixes. Less strong than freshly minced garlic.

Onion Powder – Adds a savory and sweet flavor.

Chili Powder – This secret ingredient adds a little smokiness to the burgers.

Brown Sugar – Adds just a slight hint of sweetness to balance out all of the savory. This can be omitted if you prefer.

Paprika – Smoked paprika works well with this mix but you can also use sweet paprika.

Ground Black Pepper – Use fresh ground black pepper if possible.

Salt – Sea salt or kosher salt

How to season burgers

There are two ways you can season burgers.

Add seasoning into the mix: This is my favorite way because you get a bite full of flavor every time. Spoon seasoning into the ground meat and mix until combined. Just be sure not to over mix because it can make the meat tough.

Sprinkle on the outside: If you like more of a seasoning “crust”, sprinkle the seasoning over the outside of the hamburger patties after they are formed.

Best Burger Seasoning Recipe Tips

  • Want to add a little heat? Try adding a 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper or dried red pepper flakes to the burger spices.
  • Try adding a tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce for extra umami flavor.
  • Make a big batch to have for later use. This recipe can easily be doubled or tripled.
  • This mix makes a great gift to bring to the host of a BBQ or party.
  • To make this Keto friendly, leave out the brown sugar or use a sugar substitute.

How to store Burger Seasoning Mix

Store any leftover seasoning in an airtight container like a spice container or mason jar. Make sure it’s kept in a cool, dry place to keep it fresh.

The shelf like will depend on how fresh your spices are when you make the mix. If everything is pretty new, this should have a 1-2 year shelf life.

Other way to use the best hamburger seasoning

This seasoning mix will work for burgers made with ground beef, turkey, bison, ground chicken, pork, and even veggie burgers.

It also works well mixed into meatballs and meatloaf and used to season chicken.

    1. You are right that is a lot of pepper. Not sure what happened there 🙂 I changed it to the appropriate amount. Thanks!
