Fresh watermelon margarita

This frozen tequila cocktail can be made in minutes. Use fresh watermelon that has been frozen to bring delicious flavor and color to this frozen drink.

Ingredients needed

  • Watermelon – I like using frozen fresh watermelon. Remove the rind, seeds, and then cut into cubes and freeze. Seedless watermelons work great for this recipe.
  • Lime juice – Fresh lime juice adds a nice tang to the margarita.
  • Tequila – I would recommend a silver or blanco tequila.
  • Agave nectar – This adds a little sweetness. You can substitute with simple syrup or honey.
  • Ice cubes – I use 1-2 cups of ice.
  • Optional salt for the rim of the glass
Bowl of frozen watermelon, bottle of agave nectar, tequila, and lime juice.

How to make a frozen watermelon margarita

Step one: Make sure to cut your watermelon into cubes are remove any seeds. Freeze the cubes for at least 2 hours before making the drinks.

Step two: When ready to make the drinks, place the frozen watermelon chunks into a blender. Add in ice, lime juice, tequila, and agave nectar. Blend until smooth, slushy consistency. ***You may need to add a little water or extra lime juice to get it really smooth.

How to salt a glass rim for margaritas

A salted rim is a classic way to serve a margarita. You could also use sugar, tejin seasoning, or nothing at all.

To salt a glass rim, pour some salt on a shallow plate or bowl. Use a lime wedge to rub around the rim of the glass so that the lime juice covers the rim. Dip the rim in the salt or sugar and thats it!

Make it a spicy watermelon margarita

Add a few slices of fresh jalapeno to tequila. Let sit for about 20-30 minutes before making the margarita. This will add a little spice to the cocktail.

Recipe tips

  • Don’t skip the step of freezing the watermelon. This helps to give you a delicious, slushy drink.
  • You can adjust the amount of tequila to your preference.
  • If you don’t have a blender you could use a food processor.
  • Try garnishing this drink with a slice of lime or slice of watermelon.
