What is the difference between pork tenderloin and pork loin?

Pork loin is usually easy to find at the grocery store and is very budget friendly.

Pork loin is a different cut of meat from pork tenderloin. Pork loin is a little wider and typically has a layer of fat. Pork tenderloin is long, thin, and typically doesn’t have much fat.

Ingredients

  • Pork – You can find pork loin in the meat department at the grocery store.
  • Olive oil – This helps to seal in the flavors and adds a nice crust.
  • Seasonings – Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and ground black pepper. Feel free to use your favorite pork seasoning in place of this mixture.

  1. It took me awhile (had to re-read the whole article) to decide that the recipe did not mean One 1/2# Loin. It meant one 1-1/2# Loin Roast. I needed to know for sure that 4 servings were 2-oz each for nutritional info. Our Meijer has recently been offering Half-Loins, which are great. I picked up 2 for the price of 1 this week. Tonight your recipe is going into my new PowerXL 7-Qt Air Fryer. I love the simplicity of your spice mix. Thanks for that, and also for the detailed information on the difference between the Loin and the Tenderloin.

    1. Boy, was I wrong! I just opened up the Pork Tenderloin I wrote about above. It was totally different from the wider, heavier ones (the 1/2 Tenderloins at Meijer.) It turned that there two narrower loins in each cryovacced package. This will work out better for me (single) and is cut just like this recipe’s. So I learned Tenderloins actually come in three shapes… Wide, 2-piece, and an even smaller filet. I am such an Old Dog, still learning.

  2. Followed your recipe except I cut slits in to the pork loin and put pieces of garlic inside.. Loved that it was done in the air fryer and it was so easy to make. Thank you 😊

  3. I recently discovered how delicious a pork loin is and have had it several times since. Yesterday, I picked up another flavor to try. Hopefully, it will be a huge hit too. It is an inexpensive meat when it comes to feeding 5 people.

  4. I love pork loin, the first time i prepared it I wasn’t impressed because it came out too dry. I’ve saved your recipe for my next trial, especially because I have an air fryer now. Fingers crossed they’ll come out right this time.

  5. I tried a pork loin recipe before, but didn’t like it much. I will try your recipe next time. That pork loin looks good.

  6. This looks delicious! I typically don’t eat a lot of pork (no real reason, just a preference) but this looks amazing. We will have to try this one.

  7. It has been a long time since I’ve had pork loin. This sure does look amazing. I love that it was made in the air fryer too. I need to try that.

  8. We love a good pork loin! I love the sides you mention, too. We like it with mashed peas… oh my, so good!
