Vodka cocktails are always a hit and these vodka pickle juice shots are no exception. They have become popular over the years along with another pickle drink you may have heard of, “pickleback shots”, using whiskey. This vodka version really highlights the briny, salty flavor of the pickles.

Ingredients needed

Vodka – Choose your favorite vodka or a good quality vodka.

Dill pickle juice – All you need is the juice or brine straight from a jar of pickles. Make sure to use your favorite dill pickle juice, not bread and butter.

Celery salt – Optional for the rim.

Chili powder – Also optional to mix in with the celery salt for the rim.

More optional garnishes – Slice of pickle, splash of hot sauce, Tajin seasoning for the rim, or just salt for the rim.

Bottle of vodka, bowl of celery salt and chili powder, bowl of pickles and pickle juice.

How to make a vodka pickle shot

Step one: This first step is optional. Mix together celery salt and chili powder and spread out on plate. Dip shot glass rim in water and then roll in the spice mixture.

Step two: Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour in pickle juice.

Step four: Optional, add a slice of dill pickle. Enjoy the shot.

Recipe tips

  • Chill: Try to chill vodka and pickle juice before making the shot. This will help get it extra cold.
  • Quantity: Want to make more than one shot? You can easily increase the ingredient amounts according to the number of shots needed. Example, 2 shots would be 2 ounces of vodka and 2 ounces of pickle juice.
  • Glass: You will need at least a 2 ounce shot glass and larger if you want to make a bigger shot.

Variations

Liquor – You can substitute the vodka with a shot of whiskey, tequila, or shot of bourbon.

Cocktail – Don’t like shots? You can also make this into a cocktail by serving in a martini glass for a pickle dirty martini. It’s also delicious poured into a bloody mary mix for the ultimate brunch cocktail.
