The Miami Vice drink is a delicious mixture of strawberry daquiri and pina colada. An amazing frozen drink that can be made in about 10 minutes and is perfect for Summer.

Frozen drink in a glass.

Tropical cocktails like this Watermelon Margarita, Malibu Sunset, Bay Breeze and Midori Sour are fun, fruity and great for a warm summer day or evening. This Miami Vice cocktail, also known as a “Lava Flow” is another tasty drink that is fun to serve at a BBQ, party or by the pool.

Ingredients needed

Rum – I prefer a light, white rum or a coconut rum like Malibu, for this drink. You could also substitute with a spiced rum but it will have a slightly different flavor.

Strawberries – You can use frozen or fresh strawberries for this recipe. ***Tip: All frozen strawberries will make a thicker mixture. If you prefer a thinner drink, use either all fresh strawberries or a mixture of frozen and fresh.

Maraschino juice – Cherry juice helps to add color and sweetness.

Lime juice – Adds a little tartness.

Pineapple juice – Used for the pina colada.

Cream of coconut – Sweet and creamy. I found mine in the baking aisle of the grocery store.

Ice – You will need ice for both parts of the drink.

How to make the Miami Vice drink

This frozen drink is made by combining two separate drinks, strawberry daquiri and pina colada. Make each separately and then combine them in a tall glass to make a delicious beverage, perfect for poolside sipping.

  • Strawberry daquiri: To make the strawberry daquiri portion, place ice, strawberries, lime juice, maraschino juice and rum in a blender. Blend until it becomes slushy. Place in the freezer and rinse out the blender.

  • Pina colada: Add ice, cream of coconut, pineapple juice and rum into a blender. Blend until slushy.
Ice and pinapple juice in blender.
  • Serve: To serve, pour part of the pina colada mixture and then strawberry daquiri mixture into a tall glass. You can place a large knife down the center of the glass and pour each mixture on a side to get the half and half look.

Can I use a mix?

This frozen drink can be made with a strawberry daquiri and pina colada mix if you want an even easier recipe.

  1. Blend with a blender 1 cup strawberry daquiri mix with 2 cups ice and 1/4 cup rum.
  2. Blend with a blender 1 cup pina colada mix with 2 cups ice and 1/4 cup rum.
  3. Pour in a tall glass and serve.

Virgin Miami vice drink

You can easily make this a virgin mocktail by leaving out the rum. Blend everything else like the recipe. This is a fun drink that the kids will love.

Glass filled with red and white drink.

Recipe tip

Rinse out the blender in between making each part of the drink.

Make sure to serve immediately since it’s frozen, the ice will start to melt.

If you prefer a sweeter drink, add in 1 oz of simple syrup to the strawberry mixture.

You can double or triple the recipe to make 2-3 drinks.

For a fancy look, garnish with pineapple, strawberry, cherry, whipped cream, even a tiny paper umbrella.

Can I use a different alcohol? You could substitute rum with vodka.
