What you need for cinnamon roll waffle recipe

  • Waffle maker – This recipe works with most waffle irons that are a standard size. If you’re using a larger waffle maker or a Belgian waffle iron, combine cinnamon rolls and roll them together, or use jumbo cinnamon rolls. A mini waffle maker is another option.
  • Canned cinnamon rolls – I’ve used the regular-size tube of canned cinnamon rolls, which is usually 12.4 oz. You could use the larger variety, but they will require additional cooking time and aren’t as great as the smaller size, from my experience. Use Pillsbury or another brand of your choice.
  • Non-stick cooking spray – A butter spray can also be used. You won’t need non-stick spray if you have a non-stick waffle maker.

How to make canned cinnamon roll waffles

Step 1: Turn the waffle maker on and set it to medium heat. Lightly coat the waffle iron with nonstick cooking spray.

Step 2: Place one cinnamon roll in the center of a mini waffle maker or one roll on each square or triangle when using a regular waffle maker.

How to store leftovers

Store: Once completely cool, store leftover waffles (iced or plain) in an airtight container or storage bag in the fridge for up to 5 days. These easy cinnamon roll waffles will soften the longer they are stored.

Freeze: Store these cinnamon roll waffles in the freezer for up to 2 months. Thaw at room temperature or in the fridge overnight.

Reheat your stored cinnamon roll waffles in a toaster until slightly crispy on the outside and warmed through. You could also reheat them in the air fryer.

Topping ideas

These Pillsbury cinnamon rolls are delicious with the canned icing that comes with the canned cinnamon rolls, but you can also add the following toppings:

Tips for making cinnamon roll waffles

  • Don’t spray a non-stick waffle maker with non-stick cooking spray, as it will leave a residue and cause the non-stick waffle maker to lose some of its non-stick quality over time.
  • Always preheat the waffle maker before adding the canned cinnamon rolls for best results.
  • You can press the canned cinnamon rolls between your palms to flatten them slightly before adding them to the waffle maker, but don’t flatten them too much. I added the canned cinnamon rolls to the waffle maker and pressed the cover down gently, and it turned out perfectly.
  • Placing the freshly cooked waffles on a wire rack will allow them to cool without turning soggy from trapped moisture.
  • If you add toppings to these easy cinnamon roll waffles, let them cool slightly; otherwise, the toppings could melt.
  • The cinnamon roll waffles should be slightly crispy on the outside and still soft and fluffy on the inside when cooked. Don’t let your cinnamon roll waffles burn. If in doubt, check on them after 2 minutes.
  • For variety, consider using Pillsbury’s limited edition canned cinnamon rolls.
