What you’ll need for Hamburgers in the Oven
The secret to making a good burger a great burger are the seasonings. This recipe uses simple ingredients to make the best, flavorful burgers. You can also substitute simple spices with one of our favorite burger seasonings.
Hamburger meat – I like using ground chuck because the fat content makes for a juicy burger. You can also use lean ground beef, ground chicken, or ground turkey.
Worcestershire sauce – Adds a burst of umami flavor.
Garlic powder – Adds a hint of garlic flavor. Not strong or overpowering, garlic powder is a great addition to burgers.
Salt – Use kosher salt, sea salt or Himalayan salt.
Ground black pepper – Fresh ground pepper adds
Hamburger buns – These are optional.
How to cook Burgers in the Oven
You can choose to bake the hamburgers in a baking dish or on a cookie sheet topped with a cooling rack. The cooling rack helps to let the fat drip off of the burgers while cooking but it’s not necessary to use one.
- Prepare: Preheat oven to 400 degrees fahrenheit. Make sure the oven rack is in the center of the oven.
- Either spray baking dish with non-stick spray OR place a cooling rack on a cookie sheet.
- Patties: Place meat in a large bowl. Pour in Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix the mixture until combined.
- Divide into 4 equal balls and form the ground beef mixture into hamburger patties.
- Bake: Place the patties in prepared baking dish or on the cooling rack. Place in preheated oven.
- Bake for about 15 minutes. Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature for doneness. You will want 160 degrees F for medium.
- Cheese: This step is optional. If you would like cheese, top cooked burgers with cheese slices. Place back in oven for 1-2 minutes or until melted.
The hamburger bun
There are a few options when it comes to the hamburger bun. Of course if you are trying to eat low-carb, don’t use a bun.
Toast the bun: If you prefer your bun be slightly crisp on the outside but warm and soft on the inside, try toasting the bun. Lightly spread butter on the inside of the bun. Lay face up on a cookie sheet and toast in the oven at 400 degrees for 1-2 minutes.
Wrap in aluminum foil: If you like a soft bun, place a cooked hamburger patty on a hamburger bun. Wrap the whole thing in foil and place on a cookie sheet. Bake for 2-3 minutes to “steam” the bun so it’s nice and soft.
