My simple recipe for hash brown waffles can be made in minutes. A fun way to serve crispy hash browns for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
When I got my mini waffle maker I wanted to find things I could make with it other than just waffles. Hash browns was one of my first experiments because they can be served anytime of day.
After testing cook time and ingredients, I came up with this super simple hash brown waffle recipe. It’s crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.
They are perfect served with eggs and bacon or as a side dish for things like pork tenderloin or chicken.
Hash brown waffle ingredients
- Hash browns – Frozen shredded hash browns that are thawed or refrigerated hash browns can be used.
- Cheese – Use your favorite shredded cheese. I am using cheddar but different blends or even a pepper jack cheese will work well.
- Butter – Melted unsalted butter helps to crisp up the potatoes.
- Salt and ground black pepper – You can use this for seasoning or substitute with your favorite seasonings.
- Non-stick cooking spray – Used to help crisp up the hash browns.
How to make hash brown waffles
Step one: Make sure if you are using frozen hash browns that they are thawed. You can thaw them in the microwave in intervals of 30 seconds. Then pat them dry with a paper towel to remove any excess moisture.
Step two: Heat the waffle iron.
Step three: Mix hash browns, cheese, melted butter, salt, and pepper in a large mixing bowl.
Step four: Spray the waffle iron with non-stick cooking spray. Spoon the hash brown mixture on the iron and close. Cook until golden brown, about 10 minutes.
Step five: Serve warm. If making these for a crowd, turn the oven on 200 degrees F and place finished waffles on a baking sheet in the oven to keep warm until ready to serve.
Recipe variations
Seasonings – Feel free to use your favorite seasonings. Seasoned salt, garlic powder, or Everything Bagel Seasoning are great choices.
Filling – Try adding in chopped bacon, diced ham, diced bell peppers, onions, or even a beaten egg.
