One of my favorite coffee shop drinks to make at home is a sweet caramel latte. I love the frothy top with a drizzle of caramel. The perfect way to start your day in my opinion!

The problem is I don’t like having to go out to our local coffee shop that is always busy and paying a ridiculous price. That’s why I started making these drinks like iced vanilla lattes, chai lattes, and frappuccinos at home.

Caramel latte ingredients

Just four ingredients are needed to make this simple coffee recipe.

A cup of coffee, bowl of caramel sauce, heavy cream, and sugar.
  • Coffee – A “real” latte starts with espresso but since most people don’t have an espresso machine I am using strongly brewed coffee. You can replace the coffee with 1 shot of espresso.
  • Cream – For the ultimate indulgence, I use heavy cream. It makes a rich, creamy latte. You can substitute with half and half or the milk of your choice.
  • Sugar – A little granulated sugar adds a hint of sweetness. You can leave it out or add more depending on your taste.
  • Caramel syrup – I find my caramel syrup close to the chocolate syrup at the grocery store.
  • Whipped cream – This is an optional ingredient.

Heather’s tips

  • Make sure not to warm the cream over high heat so that it won’t scald. You want to keep it over medium heat and continuously whisk to froth.
  • You can make this decaffeinated by using decaf coffee or decaf espresso.
  • If you would like to use espresso, substitute the coffee for one shot of espresso.
