My air fryer garlic bread can be made in minutes and is a great side dish to many meals. Make it homemade and fresh with a few simple ingredients or cook premade frozen bread.

Garlic bread on a plate.

I love a good piece of garlic bread. It’s one of side dishes that makes any meal better. Serve it with pasta, soup, a protein, it really does go with almost anything.

This recipe came about when I didn’t have any room in my oven. I had a couple pasta dishes taking up space but needed to get some garlic bread cooked up fast to serve with the meal. That’s when my trusty air fryer saved the day.

The air fryer ended up cooking the bread perfectly, not to mention that it’s quick and easy.

The air fryer comes in handy for making food that is quick and delicious. Some of the most popular air fryer recipes on this site are the air fryer Texas toast recipe and air fryer grilled cheese recipe so I thought I would share a more traditional garlic bread recipe.

Ingredients

  • Bread – Use either French or Italian bread.
  • Butter – Feel free to use salted or unsalted. I prefer using unsalted that way I can control the amount of sodium. You will want to make sure the butter is softened to make it easier to mix and spread on the bread.
  • Garlic – The amount can be adjusted according to tasted but I have found that about 3 cloves works well. If you are using jarred chopped garlic, 2-3 teaspoons will work.
  • Herbs – This is optional but I like to add a little fresh or dried parsley. You could also substitute with chives.

Making air fryer garlic bread from scratch is so easy you will not want store bought again after making this recipe.

  1. Cut bread loaf into thirds or fourths depending on size and then cut in half.
  2. Add butter, garlic, parsley, salt and pepper to a bowl.
  3. Mix all the ingredients together until combined. I find using the back of a fork helps to blend everything together.
  4. Spread the butter mixture on each piece of bread.
  5. Place bread, butter side up in air fryer basket. Cook at 350 degrees for 4-5 minutes or until desired crustiness.

Recipe tips

  • Use softened butter. Softened butter helps to make it easy to spread.
  • I find using a serrated knife helps to make cutting the bread easier.
  • Make sure not to overlap bread in the basket. I can usually fit about 2 pieces at a time in my air fryer. This will help the hot air circulate around the bread.
  • Air fryers can cook a little different so be sure to check your bread to make sure it doesn’t burn.
  • Serve warm. I think this bread is best served warm.

Variations

  • Different bread. You can use different breads for this recipe like sourdough, Texas toast, Italian, or ciabatta.
  • Try some cheese. I like adding a little cheese for a twist. Top with shredded mozzarella, colby jack cheese, or a little parmesan before toasting.
  • Add some herbs. Boost the flavor with fresh or dried herbs. I like using parsley or chives. You could even add some Italian seasoning.
  • Make it a pizza. Top your air fryer garlic bread with marinara, cheese, and pepperoni for a tasty pizza.

What to serve with air fryer garlic bread

This bread pairs well with a variety of dishes like green pasta, baked mostaccioli, baked ravioli lasagna, and chicken spaghetti.

How to make frozen garlic bread in air fryer

Homemade garlic bread can be made in about 5 minutes but I understand sometimes when you are in a hurry, frozen is a quick and easy alternative. To make frozen garlic bread in the air fryer:

  • Place the frozen bread in the air fryer basket.
  • Cook at 350 degrees F for 5-6 minutes or until heated through. If it has cheese, you might need to add an extra 1-2 minutes.

Storage instructions

Store: If you have any leftovers, let the bread cool and then place in a zip-top bag or container. It will stay good at room temperature for a day or in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Freeze: Make according to directions and then let it cool. Wrap with plastic wrap and then foil and freeze for up to 2 months. When ready to eat, let it thaw in refrigerator and then cook in air fryer at 350 for 3-4 minutes.

Reheat: Reheat the garlic bread in the air fryer at 350 for 2-3 minutes.

I love garlic bread but sometimes it’s too much work to turn on the oven especially if I’m only making one or two servings. I’ll have to use the air fryer next time. I love the air fryer but sometimes I forget trying to make certain foods in it.
