I am a big fan of this loaded chicken salad and am sharing this simple recipe so that you can make it at home.

There are so many ways to you can take a simple chicken salad recipe and make it something super special. The fast casual restaurant, Chicken Salad Chick, has done a wonderful job of coming up with amazing chicken salad flavor combinations.

This chicken, bacon, ranch combination, the Sassy Scotty, reminds me of this million dollar crack dip recipe with the addition of chicken. So flavorful, and so delicious!

Ingredients

Just a few basic ingredients are used to make this easy recipe.

Chicken tenderloins, mayonnaise, chopped bacon, diced celery, cheese, and seasonings.
  • Chicken – I like using chicken tenderloins for this recipe because they cook fast. You can use chicken breast or shredded rotisserie chicken.
  • Chicken broth or stock– I like using chicken broth or stock to boil the chicken. It gives the chicken added flavor. You can also use water if you don’t have broth.
  • Mayonnaise – Duke’s mayonnaise is my favorite choice but feel free to the mayonnaise you prefer.
  • Ranch – Use your favorite bottled ranch or homemade ranch dressing.
  • Bacon – Crumbled bacon is needed. You can also substitute with bacon bits.
  • Celery – One stalk of celery, finely diced.
  • Cheese – Shredded cheddar cheese is used.
  • Seasonings – Salt, ground black pepper, garlic powder

How to make copycat Chicken Salad Chick Sassy Scotty

It’s easy to make your own ranch chicken salad at home. You can adjust the ingredients to your taste.

Step one: Pour chicken stock in a large pot and bring to a boil. Add the chicken tenderloins and boil for 10 minutes or until the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165 degrees F. If you are using rotisserie chicken, skip this step.

Step two: Place the cooked chicken in a food processor or mixer bowl. Pulse a few times to shred the chicken. Be sure not to over mix or pulse.

Step three: In a large bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, ranch dressing, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

Step four: Stir in the diced celery, cheese, bacon, and shredded chicken.

Step five: Serve or cover and chill in the refrigerator.

Heather’s recipe tips

  • Chicken: I recommend boiling your chicken in chicken broth, chicken stock, or water with chicken bouillon. This is a great way to add extra flavor to your chicken. ***If you are using chicken breasts it might take a little longer to boil.
  • Shredding the chicken: Chicken salad chick is known for the finely shredded chicken. To achieve this I recommend using a food processor or mixer. Just be sure not to over mix.
  • Ranch: You can use bottled ranch, homemade ranch, or stir together 1 tablespoon or ranch seasoning with 1/2 cup of sour cream.

Variations

This recipe is meant to be similar to the restaurants Sassy Scotty chicken salad. You can adjust the ingredients to your taste preference. Try some of these add-ins to make the recipe your own.

Onion – Diced green onion or red onion is a delicious addition to this recipe. I recommend about 1/4 cup.

Cheese – This recipe uses cheddar cheese but you can substitute with Monterey Jack, Colby Jack, or crumbled blue cheese.

Buffalo sauce – Add a little spice to this recipe by substitute ranch with buffalo ranch.
