Ingredients needed

This delicious cocktail is made from simple ingredients that can be found where most alcohol is served.

Sour apple liqueur – This is the common De Kuyper Pucker Sour Apple Pucker. The bright green color gives this cocktail a fun look and a sweet and sour, jolly rancher flavor. You can substitute with apple brandy but it’s not quite the same.

Vodka – You just need a classic plain vodka. Feel free to substitute with a flavored vodka like Smirnoff Green Apple vodka.

Lemon Juice – This adds a fresh, tart flavor to the drink. You can also substitute with lime juice.

Optional – Try a slice of green apple for a beautiful garnish. Granny Smith green apples work well to enhance the green color and the tart flavor.

How to make an appletini cocktail

  1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
  2. Pour in apple pucker, vodka, and lemon juice.
  3. Shake for 15-20 seconds.
  4. Pour into a martini glass. Optional, top with green apple slices or a maraschino cherry.
Shaker with ice and bottles of vodka, pucker and lemon juice.

Is apple Pucker the same as apple schnapps?

Sour apple pucker and apple schnapps are the same thing. “Schnapps” is a term in German that refers to an alcoholic drink that is flavored with fruit, spices or herbs.

Recipe tips

  • If you don’t have a cocktail shaker, use a jar or container with a lid to shake up these appletinis.
  • The best way to serve this is in a chilled martini glass. Place the glasses in the freezer overnight for a perfectly chilled glass the next evening.
  • Lightly brush the apple slice garnish with lemon juice to help prevent browning.

Variations

This is a basic appletini recipe but can be altered to your preference.

Juice: Want to enhance that apple flavor? Try adding 1 ounce of apple juice or apple cider to the mix.

If you would like to make a red apple martini, add 1 ounce of cranberry juice to the vodka and apple schnapps mixture.

Caramel: Want a caramel appletini? Add a little caramel sauce to the inside of the martini glass.

Vodka: Use a flavored vodka to add a little extra flavor. Try caramel vodka, vanilla vodka, cinnamon vodka or others that would work with the sour apple flavor.

Sweetness: If you prefer a sweeter drink, add in 1/2 ounce of simple syrup to the mix.

Non-alcoholic: To make this a mocktail, mix together 2 ounces of apple cider and 2 ounces of sweet and sour mix.
