Air fryer roasted chickpeas are an easy, healthy snack that can be made in about 10 minutes.

Ingredients needed

Chickpeas, olive oil and seasoned salt.

What are chickpeas?

They can also be referred to as garbanzo beans and are part of the legume family. They were originally cultivated in the Middle East and Mediterranean. A great source of plant based, vegan and gluten free protein, these little guys are super nutritious!

They are usually packaged in a can or dry. I used can chickpeas for this recipe to cut down on time. There are so many recipes you can use chickpeas in like hummus, falafel or salad.

  • Begin by draining and rinsing the chickpeas with cold water. ***You can also save the “juice” from the can. This is called Aquafaba which has similar properties to egg whites! Crazy, right?! You can use it to make meringue, marshmallows and more.

  • Pour out onto paper towels and pat dry. Make sure to get them as dry as possible.

How to roast chickpeas in the oven

If you don’t own an air fryer, simply pour the chickpeas on a cookie sheet and roast in the oven at 425 for about 30 minutes or until desired crunchiness.

Benefits of chickpeas

These little legumes are good sources of protein and fiber. They also offer many health benefits for example:

  • Heart Health – They contain a significant amount of fiber which can help lower cholesterol
  • Helps with Inflammation – Chickpeas contain choline that can help reduce inflammation
  • Digestion – High in fiber

Recipe tips

  • Biggest tip is to make sure you dry the chickpeas before roasting. This helps them become crunchy.
  • Spice things up with different seasonings.
  • Add 2-3 minutes to make them crunchier.

Variations

There are many ways to season chickpeas. This is a basic recipe to use but feel free to change up the flavors. Here are a few of our favorites:

  • Ranch – Season with 1/2-1 tablespoon of ranch seasoning.
  • Taco – Use your favorite taco seasoning for fiesta flavor.
  • Pumpkin spice – Combine 1 tablespoon sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of pumpkin spice mix.
  • Cinnamon – Sprinkle with a mixture of 1 tablespoon sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.
