One of my favorite flavor combinations, especially in the fall is pork and apples and this slow cooker apples and pork chops recipe is the perfect way to bring these two ingredients together.

In my family we call these apple pie pork chops. It’s a meal the kids frequently request, especially once school starts back in the fall. I love it because it’s so easy to put together and let the slow cooker do the work.

This easy dinner is packed with sweet and savory flavor. Apple pie filling might seem a little unconventional but it adds the perfect sweet balance to the onion soup mix and broth creating a flavorful gravy that is so good over the pork chops.

We like serving this over fluffy mashed potatoes to really soak up all of the gravy but it’s also wonderful with a variety of other sides like Stove Top stuffing in the oven.

Ingredients

Slow cooker pork chops with apples can be made with a few pantry ingredients.

Pork chops, onion soup mix, canned apple pie filling, broth, onions, and butter.
  • Pork chops: I am using 1/2-inch thick boneless pork chops. You can also use bone in pork chops. Make sure not to use the thin sliced pork chops.
  • Onions – Thinly sliced onions add a layer of flavor.
  • Beef broth – Used as cooking liquid and adds rich flavor. Chicken broth can be used as a substitute.
  • Lipton onion soup mix – A pack of onion soup mix adds wonderful flavor to the pork.
  • Poultry seasoning, salt, pepper – Poultry seasoning is made up of sage, rosemary, and thyme which pair perfectly with the pork and apples
  • Butter – A little bit of butter adds richness to the sauce.
  • Apple pie filling – Tender, cinnamon spiced apples creates a sweet and savory combination that creates a cozy, comforting meal.

Heather’s recipe tips

  • Don’t use thinly sliced pork chops. Thin pork chops won’t hold up well.
  • Layer to enhance flavors. I recommend putting the onions on the bottom of the slow cooker to help them caramelize and also to help prevent the pork chops form sticking.
  • Try adding fresh apples. If you want even more apple flavor, you can add fresh, sliced apples the last hour of cooking.

Serving suggestions

Harvest pork chops are great on their own but I like serving them with things like mashed potatoes, rice, over buttered noodles, whipped sweet potatoes, stuffing balls, or a side or roasted vegetables.
