There is nothing quite like a good steak dinner and it’s so easy to take it to the next level with this garlic steak butter. Herbed butter for steak adds amazing, restaurant quality taste and also helps make a steak more tender.

Best Steak Butter ingredients

Unsalted butter – Make sure to let the butter soften by letting it sit out at room temperature for about 30 minutes before mixing. Feel free to use salted butter, just leave out the extra salt.

Garlic cloves – Minced or pressed fresh garlic cloves. You can substitute fresh garlic with 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder.

Parsley – Fresh, chopped flat leaf parsley.

Chives – Fresh, chopped chives.

Salt and pepper – A little seasoning goes a long way.

How to make Steak Butter

This compound butter recipe is so easy to make and you can easily double the recipe to have extra for later.

  1. Place softened butter, chopped chives, parsley, garlic, salt and pepper in a bowl.
  2. Use a fork or spoon to mash all of the ingredients together to combined.
  3. Place a dollop on a hot steak or store for later.

Easy Steak Butter storage

Store: Store the butter in an airtight container in the refrigerator. You can also place it in plastic wrap and roll it into a log. Keep in the refrigerator and chill until it’s firm. Then slice off a piece when ready to use. This will last 2 weeks in the refrigerator.

Freeze: This butter can also be frozen. Wrap in plastic wrap and then place in a freezer safe bag. Keep in the freezer for up to 3 months. Let thaw at room temperature when ready to use.

This butter works for more than steak. Try it on things like a hamburger, pork, roast, vegetables, even a piece of crusty bread.

Can I use dried herbs? Yes, substitute 1 teaspoon of dried parsley and chives for the fresh herbs.

Feel free to add or substitute herbs. Thyme and rosemary are also delicious additions to this recipe.

If you want to highlight the beefy flavor, try adding a tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce to the butter mixture.

Want to add a little heat? Add a teaspoon of red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce to the mixture.

This butter can be made ahead of time and kept in the refrigerator or freezer so it’s ready to go.
