5 Layer dip on a tortilla chip.

Chances are you have probably enjoyed a 5 layer dip before. It’s a classic dip that is perfect to serve for any occasion. Similar to a 7 layer dip, just with less toppings, this dip is always a hit with any crowd.

Chips and dip are my food love language. There is something about a creamy dip paired with a crunchy chip that can’t be beat. This easy bean dip is one of my absolute favorites. It can be made in 10 minutes, easy ingredients, and the flavor is out of this world.

Similar to my ground beef taco dip, this layered dip is full of Tex-Mex flavor and great if you need a last minute appetizer or snack.

Ingredients

Make this 5 layer bean dip with just a few ingredients.

Bowl of shredded cheese, sour cream, salsa, guacamole, beans, taco seasonings, olives, and green onions.
  • Refried beans: I like using a can of refried beans to make this easy to put together.

Heather’s recipe tips

This 5 layer dip really couldn’t be easier but I do have a few recommendations to help make it the best.

  • Slightly warm the refried beans. You can microwave the refried beans for about 30 seconds to make it easier to spread.
  • Spread the layers in evenly. Try to spread each topping in an even layer.
  • Add the fresh toppings last. If you are adding fresh toppings like onions, cilantro, or tomatoes, add them last.
  • Double the recipe for a crowd. This is an easy dip to make for a crowd. Double the ingredients and spread in a 9 x 13 baking dish.

Variations and substitutions

  • 5 layer dip with cream cheese: Mix in softened cream cheese with the refried beans.
  • Meat: Add a layer of ground beef or shredded chicken.
  • Spicy: Add diced jalapenos or mix in hot sauce with the refried beans.
  • Black beans: Substitute the refried beans with mashed black beans.
  • Pico de Gallo: You can substitute the salsa with pico de gallo.

Storage instructions
