You can also try this easy powdered sugar icing and lemon icing for a little something different.

How to make orange icing

Gather the ingredients for the orange icing.

  • Orange juice – You will need about 1/4 cup of orange juice. It can vary depending on how thick or thin you want the icing.
  • Powdered sugar – This is the base of icing.
  • Vanilla extract – Adds a layer of warm sweetness to the icing.
  • Butter – You can use salted or unsalted butter.
  • Optional – Orange zest for extra orange flavor and color.

This is a super simple recipe. Place all of the ingredients in a large bowl.

Whisk until completely combined. Make sure you whisk enough to get rid of any lumps.

This recipe makes a thicker icing. If you would like to make a thinner glaze, add more orange juice. I recommend adding 1 teaspoon at a time until you reach your desired consistency.

Common questions

  • Can you use bottled orange juice? I recommend fresh orange juice for the best flavor but you can use bottled orange juice.
  • What if the icing is too thick? Add in small amounts of orange juice until you reach the appropriate consistency.
  • What if the icing is too thin? You can add a little extra powdered sugar to the icing.
  • How to store leftover icing? Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
