Root Beer Baked Beans

Root beer baked beans are a simple, sweet and savory side dish. Baked beans made with root beer, these are always a hit at a cookout, BBQ, and more.

Ingredients

  • 6 pieces bacon
  • ½ cup onion diced
  • 1 (28 ounce) can beans
  • ½ cup BBQ sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon ground dry mustard
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 8 ounces root beer

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 9 x 13 baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Cook the bacon in a large skillet. Once cooked, place the bacon on a paper towel lined plate. Chop the bacon into small pieces.
  • Carefully remove any excess bacon grease and then put the diced onion in the same skillet. Cook the onions over medium heat for 4-5 minutes.
  • Pour the beans, dry mustard, garlic powder, salt, pepper, root beer, and crumbled bacon into the skillet. Stir to combine.
  • Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Bake uncovered for 35-40 minutes.

Notes

  • Cook the bacon first. This step is important because it adds great flavor and helps prevent to bacon from getting soggy.
  • Make sure to use full sugar root beer. The full sugar is needed for the best flavor and caramelization.
  • Double the recipe for a crowd. If you are feeding a crowd, it's easy to double the recipe. You can still use a 9 x 13 baking dish.
