- 6 pieces bacon
- ½ cup onion diced
- 1 (28 ounce) can beans
- ½ cup BBQ sauce
- ¼ teaspoon ground dry mustard
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 8 ounces root beer
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 9 x 13 baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
Cook the bacon in a large skillet. Once cooked, place the bacon on a paper towel lined plate. Chop the bacon into small pieces.
Carefully remove any excess bacon grease and then put the diced onion in the same skillet. Cook the onions over medium heat for 4-5 minutes.
Pour the beans, dry mustard, garlic powder, salt, pepper, root beer, and crumbled bacon into the skillet. Stir to combine.
Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Bake uncovered for 35-40 minutes.
- Cook the bacon first. This step is important because it adds great flavor and helps prevent to bacon from getting soggy.
- Make sure to use full sugar root beer. The full sugar is needed for the best flavor and caramelization.
- Double the recipe for a crowd. If you are feeding a crowd, it's easy to double the recipe. You can still use a 9 x 13 baking dish.
