Tequila JELLO shots are so fun and always a hit at a party, BBQ or holiday. These tequila JELLO shots are made with margarita mix for added festive flavor.

If you are wanting an easy, fun thing to serve your guests, these JELLO shots are just the thing. They have a similar bright green color to these midori sours, and a delicious margarita lime taste.

There are so many flavors and alcohol that can be used to make shots but this margarita version is one of my favorites, especially in the summer.

Ingredients Needed

JELLO – I used the lime flavor for this recipe but it’s also delicious with strawberry, cherry, orange and lemon.

Margarita Mix – Use original flavored liquid margarita mix. This can usually be found at the grocery store in the mixers aisle.

Tequila – You can use whatever you have on hand. No need for an expensive tequila since it will be mixed with the JELLO.

Optional – Margarita salt of sugar for garnish.

Small shot glasses or cups – I like using these small mini cups with lids.

How To Make Tequila JELLO Shots

  1. Boil a cup of water either on the stove or in the microwave.
  2. Pour JELLO packet in a large bowl or in a large measuring cup.
  3. Mix in boiling water and stir until dissolved.
  4. Stir in margarita mix and tequila.
  5. Carefully pour mixture into mini plastic cups or shot glasses.
  6. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours. The longer the better.
  7. Optional, sprinkle the tops with sugar, sprinkles or margarita salt.

Recipe Tips

  • Use something with a spout to easily pour JELLO mixture into mini cups.
  • Try not to overfill the cups. You want to make sure to leave a little room at the top of the cup.
  • Use a cookie sheet or tray to have the tequila JELLO shots on while they are in the refrigerator. This makes it easier to move them around.
  • You might need a spoon to help eat these.

How Much Alcohol In JELLO Shots?

If you don’t want your shots to taste like straight tequila, 1/2 cup of alcohol is a good amount to add to the shots.

If you want them a little stronger, you can add up to 2/3 cup of alcohol before the consistency doesn’t start to break down. Just be careful not to add too much, or the JELLO won’t become set. You want the margarita mix and alcohol together to equal one cup.

How Long Do JELLO Shots With Tequila Last In The Refrigerator?

These take at least 2 hours to set. Just be sure to check them before serving and add chill time if needed.

Make sure to store these in the refrigerator when not eating. They will last for about one week but are best if eaten in a couple of days.

I don’t recommend freezing them because the texture will not hold up.

Can I Use A Different Alcohol?

Yes, you can make JELLO shots with vodka, rum, whiskey, gin, even wine or champagne.
