Shots are typically easy and cheap drinks to make for a night home with friends, parties and holidays. There are many different shots like the popular lemon drop shot, vegas bomb, and cinnamon toast crunch shot.

Pineapple upside down shots are meant to make you feel like you are eating a slice of delicious cake. The vanilla vodka mixed with pineapple juice really gives that cake flavor and the splash of grenadine adds that beautiful pop of red like the cherries on a pineapple upside down cake.

Ingredients needed

Vanilla Vodka – Vanilla vodka adds a sweet, cake-like flavor. You can substitute with whipped cream vodka or cake vodka. You can even use regular vodka it just won’t be as sweet.

Pineapple juice – Use a filtered pineapple juice for this drink.

Grenadine – Adds that beautiful red color at the bottom and a touch of extra sweetness.

Ice – Enough ice is needed to fill up the cocktail shaker. This will help make the shot nice and cold.

Maraschino cherries – Optional garnish.

Bottle of vanilla vodka, can of pineapple juice, glass of grenadine.

How to make pineapple upside down cake shots

  1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
  2. Pour vodka and pineapple juice in the shaker. Close and shake for 20-30 seconds. This helps to chill the drink.

Recipe tips and variations

  • Use a tall shot glass for this cake shot recipe. It helps show off the layers.
  • Be sure to slowly pour in the grenadine down the side of the glass so that you get the layered effect.
  • For a more tropical flavor, try substituting vanilla vodka with Malibu rum.
  • This can also be made into a cocktail drink. Use 3-4 ounces of vanilla vodka , 3-4 ounces of pineapple juice and then 1/2 ounce grenadine. Pour into a glass filled with ice to serve.

What if I don’t have cocktail shaker?

If you don’t have a cocktail shaker, no problem! Try using a Mason jar instead. Simply add ice to the jar, along with the vodka and pineapple juice. Make sure you put the lid on tight and then shake.
