Bisquick waffles make a delicious morning breakfast. These homemade waffles are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. With the help of Bisquick mix, they can be made in about 10 minutes from start to finish. Try topping with maple syrup, berries, or even chicken for a tasty meal.

We love using Bisquick

Bisquick is an all-purpose baking mix that can be used for a variety of things like pizza crust, dumplings, and sausage balls. It’s a combination of flour, cornstarch, leavening, oil, salt, and sugar, making it a great shortcut and time savor when it comes to cooking.

This waffle recipe is one of my favorite ways to use Bisquick. Waffles are a fun and delicious breakfast that the whole family will love. Make it a meal with crispy bacon, fruit, and a non-alcoholic mimosa.

Ingredients

This is the classic Bisquick waffle recipe but it’s easily customizable.

  • Bisquick: This all-purpose baking mix can usually be found in the baking or cereal aisle of the grocery store.
  • Milk: Use your favorite milk like 2%, whole milk, almond milk, coconut milk, or soy milk.
  • Egg: This helps to hold the waffle mixture together.
  • Vegetable oil: You need a little fat to achieve a crispy waffle. Feel free to substitute with canola oil.
  • Vanilla extract: This is an optional ingredient but it adds a nice warm, slightly sweet flavor to the mix.
  • Optional: For extra flavor try mixing in 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, apple pie spice, sugar, brown sugar, or even a sprinkle cheddar cheese.

How to make Bisquick waffles

Step one: Heat waffle iron on medium heat.

Step two: Place Bisquick, egg, vegetable oil, milk, and vanilla in a large mixing bowl. Stir ingredients until just combined. (Don’t over stir.)

Step three: Spray the waffle iron with non-stick cooking spray or wipe with vegetable oil. Pour batter onto center of hot waffle iron.

Step four: Cook for about 5 minutes or until golden brown. Remove cooked waffle and serve warm.

Recipe tips

  • Try not to over-mix the batter. There will still be some small lumps and that’s ok. Too much mixing can result in a tough waffle.
  • Make sure to set your waffle iron to medium heat. We want them crispy on the outside but not burned. It also helps to make sure they are cooked completely through.
  • Don’t over fill or under fill the waffle iron with batter. Check the manufacture instructions to know who much batter is needed.
  • If you are making these for a crowd and need to keep them warm and crispy while cooking, heat oven to 200 degrees F and place cooked waffles on a cookie sheet in the oven until ready to serve.

How to make Bisquick Belgian waffles

You can use this recipe plus 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda to get nice, fluffy Belgian style waffles. Be sure to use a Belgian waffle maker to get the deeper squares that allow for extra crunch.

Topping ideas for this Bisquick Waffle Recipe

There are so many amazing waffle toppings. Feel free to get creative. Here are a few topping suggestions:

  • Powdered sugar and syrup
  • Cinnamon butter
  • Fresh fruit and whipped cream
  • Fried chicken – Top with fried chicken and syrup or honey for the ultimate meal.
  • Ice cream – Topped with a scoop of your favorite strawberry or vanilla ice cream makes a great dessert.
  • Nutella or chocolate sauce
  • Peanut butter and chocolate chips
  • White gravy with sausage or bacon
  • Fried egg and fresh herbs

Do I have to use the waffle mix right away?

Waffle mix can be made ahead of time. Make sure to cover or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It can last up to 2 days.

How to store

Have leftover waffles? You can store or freeze them with no problem.

Store: Let them completely cool and then store in an airtight container like a zip-top bag or container.

Freeze: Make sure to let them cool completely. Place them on a baking sheet in the freezer until frozen. Place the frozen waffles in a zip-top freezer bag or container. They will last up to 3 months.

Reheat: These can be reheated in the oven or in the air fryer to make them warm and crispy again. Heat in the oven at 375 for 3-5 minutes or in the air fryer at 380 for 2-3 minutes or until warm.

Is waffle mix the same as pancake mix?

Waffle and pancake batter are different. While they both use Bisquick mix, waffle batter is a little thicker and uses oil.

Is it better to use milk or water in waffle mix?

MIlk is the preferred ingredient in waffle mix because it gives it a rich flavor. Water can be used in a pinch but is not preferred.
